New fine art photo collective to exhibit at Fringe Festival

BRIGHTON, 1 September 2010 — A collective of six emerging fine art photographers announced today its first exhibition which will explore surreal and subconscious themes.

The exhibition, entitled “Unexpected”, will be showcased during this fall’s Brighton Photo Fringe festival at the Brighton Media Centre.

“Brighton Photo Fringe is such a brilliant opportunity to exhibit our new work to the photographic community and lovers of the medium,” said Gillian Alexandra Kalisky, one of the members of Group 2, a photographic collective formed during a postgraduate photography course at Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design. Other Group 2 members include Chloé Jafé, Sunok Kang, Milly Vinogradoff-Kellner, Marta Lamovsek, and Yoshimi Lee.

The exhibition seeks to explore the surreal — the concepts our subconscious examines while we dream but are not commonly found in the observed world.

Unexpected asks the viewer to look deeper into the urban landscape, face death and birth, and to accept the uncomfortably extraordinary.

“I haven’t seen any surrealist photography around for a while,” said Brighton Media Centre Gallery Manager Vanessa Jones. “I am personally very excited to see what this talented group of photographers have to add to the genre in Unexpected.”

“Unexpected” opens 17 October and will run through 25th October (Private View Saturday 16th October 6-9pm) at the Brighton Media Centre: 15-17 Middle Street BN1 1AL.
